Privacy Policy for Piano Tuner AI
Effective date: 2026-11-04
This policy explains how Piano Tuner AI (the Android and iPhone app, and the website pianotuner.pro) handles information: what is collected, why, who processes it, how long it is kept and how to delete it.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the app, we collect or process:
- Microphone audio: live piano sound is analysed on your device to find pitch, partials and tuning deviation. The app does not record audio files and does not upload microphone audio.
- Account information: your Firebase user ID, and the email address, display name and profile-photo URL that your sign-in provider supplies when you sign in with Google, Facebook, Instagram or Apple. If you continue without an account, an anonymous Firebase account is created that carries no name or email.
- Tuning documents and measurements: piano profile name, manufacturer, model, serial number, notes, note range, temperament, tuning style, concert pitch, string count, inharmonicity and pitch measurements, pitch-raise sessions and timestamps.
- App help conversations: on Android, the questions you type into the in-app help and the replies it gives. Replies are generated on your device; the conversation text is saved to your account so it can be reviewed and the help improved.
- Messages you send us: feedback, support and sponsorship messages written in the app, with the reply email address you enter, the app version and the device model.
- Purchases and access: which product you bought or subscribed to, its purchase token and status from Google Play or the App Store, your remaining hourly balance, promo codes you redeemed, and the devices authorised on a lifetime licence (a device identifier and the device's model name or the label you give it). We do not receive your card or payment details.
- Welcome trial marker: an opaque one-way hash recording that a device has used the introductory trial. It contains no account ID, email address or raw device identifier.
- Usage analytics: which screens you open and which features you use (for example starting the tuner, recording a note, opening help), with the app version, device type, approximate region and how the app was installed (Google Play Install Referrer). Help-chat analytics carry message counts and outcomes, never message text.
- Crash reports and diagnostics: crash logs, stack traces, device model, operating-system version, app version and, while you are signed in, your Firebase user ID.
- Advertising measurement (Android): app launches and completed purchases (product and price), together with your device's advertising ID, are reported to Meta to measure our advertising.
- Push notifications: a Firebase Cloud Messaging token and the notification topics you have switched on (sales offers, app news).
- App integrity: Firebase App Check confirms that requests come from the genuine app (on Android through Google Play Integrity).
- Bluetooth device information: name, hardware address, signal strength and connection state of nearby tuner-motor hardware when you use motor assist. The auto-connect device address is stored only on your device.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide tuning, multi-string tracking, measurements, pitch raise and motor assist.
- To sign you in, keep your pianos in sync across devices, and restore them on a new device.
- To verify purchases, apply subscriptions, hourly time, promo codes and device limits, and prevent repeated trials.
- To answer support requests and help-chat questions, and to improve the help it gives.
- To understand how features are used, find and fix crashes, and improve the app.
- To send the notifications you opted in to, and to measure whether our advertising leads to installs and purchases.
- To protect the service from abuse and unauthorised clients.
On Android 11 and earlier, Android may require location permission for Bluetooth scanning. We request it only for that purpose and never use it to determine, store or share your location.
3. Service Providers and Sharing
We use the following providers to operate the app:
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud: Authentication, Cloud Firestore (account, pianos, help conversations, purchase and access records), Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, App Check, Google Analytics for Firebase and Crashlytics. See Firebase Privacy and Security.
- Google Play and the Apple App Store: process your payment and report the purchase to us. They are the sellers of record.
- Meta (Facebook, Instagram): sign-in if you choose it, and on Android the launch, purchase and advertising-ID events described above. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple on iPhone, if you choose it.
- Bluetooth tuner-motor hardware: note, cent deviation, string and motor commands go locally over Bluetooth to hardware you connect. This is not an internet upload.
We do not sell personal information and do not show ads in the app. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
4. Where Data Is Stored
Tuning documents and your signed-in session are stored in the app's private storage on your device. When you are signed in, your profile, pianos, help conversations and purchase records are stored in Cloud Firestore under your Firebase user ID, and security rules restrict client access to your own records.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Account data, pianos, measurements and help conversations are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Local data stays on your device until you delete it in the app, clear app storage or uninstall. Analytics and crash reports are kept for the retention periods configured in Google Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, after which Google deletes them.
Delete account in the app's menu permanently deletes your account, pianos, measurements, help conversations, messages you sent and the link between your purchases and your account. A small set of records is kept without your identity, as listed on the data deletion page, which also explains how to request deletion if you can no longer open the app. You can also email support@pianotuner.pro.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; manage that in Google Play or the App Store.
6. Security
Data in transit uses encrypted connections. Local data sits in the operating system's app sandbox, and Firestore access is restricted by user-ID-based security rules and App Check. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- You can decline microphone or Bluetooth permission; features that need them will not be available.
- You can use the app without a named account (“Continue without an account”).
- You can turn sales and news notifications off in the app's Settings or in your device's notification settings.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings.
- You can delete individual pianos, or your whole account, in the app.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to its processing. Email us to exercise them.
8. Children
Piano Tuner AI is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. International Processing
Your information may be processed in countries where Google, Apple, Meta and our other providers operate, including outside your country of residence. Cloud Firestore data is stored in Google's European multi-region.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app's data practices change. When we make changes, we will update the effective date and publish the latest version on this page.
